Bernard Rooke Lamp

I've just purchased this stunning early lamp base by Bernard Rooke.
The lamp has three sections with a stylised runic design with a vibrant blue glass circle to the centre block. This range dates from the early 60's when he worked with Alan Wallwork and was retailed through Heals in the West End of London.
Bernard Rooke was born in 1938 and studied at the Ipswich School of Art before moving on to the Goldsmiths College, London. It was here, in his last year, that he decided to take up pottery.
In 1960 he set up his own workshop in Forest Hill in London, sharing the premises with Alan Wallwork and Robert & Sheila Fournier. In 1963 the pottery moved to larger premises in Greenwich but he soon out grew these premises. Moving again in 1967 to a huge mill building in Swilland near Ipswich in Suffolk where he went on to produce the more scultural pottery that is more often seen.
